"The Way" - oil, oil pastel, encaustic, charcoal and assemblage on canvas panel 40” x 48” x 1.38” (Black Aluminum Frame)
If true religion is in caring for the widow and the orphan; after my neighbor became a widow, it really got me thinking. (My wonderful neighbor was so kind to model for me for this painting <3)
The man's ring is real & I was sure to make it the wedding finger for ‘covenant’…. for promise of relationship. The woman, in the act of giving, wears a bracelet that bears the symbols for the ten commandments. And the little boy that tugs daddy’s leg has an exposed tag that reads “inexcess” and “made in the USA”; so I am also making a social statement... as this country has SO MUCH and yet where is the generosity... where does it go? Who is walking the talk (in the bracelet)?
Definition: excess: an amount of something that is more than necessary, permitted, or desirable. It is interesting how the definition of ‘excess’ is overtly ‘negative’ sounding... I am also speaking to the sad state of how children are often viewed (an excess), but they as the widow are a treasured blessing!
There is ‘genuine’ and then there is lip-service, and in this piece I present to you that ‘The Way’ is in ‘The Doing’ (get out there… .there is enough B.S. in cheap talk).
Framed with white barnwood liner encased in black metal.
