Breaking Light

Breaking Light - acrylic on canvas - 18"x24"x1.5"

I am drawn not only to the beauty within a scene, but am careful to include beckoning elements of light/shadow, repetition and depth. Scenes chosen revolve around a dance of light/shadow and its own sense of invitation to explore; pathways are common to include for this reason. Quiet, hidden, reflective/introspective....lush; these are things I look for. I am polarized by scenes that make me forget my troubles and I feel "enveloped", even if just for a moment.

Inspired of a fall trip to Dundee Falls, a park in Ohio. I was standing on the top of the falls where before me was only a tiny stream of water that led to a 15 foot drop to the left of the view I chose. The light breaking through was arresting however; on this breezy autumn day, and caught my undivided attention.
